Human Capital Chaos

Over the past few months we have begun what I might call “strategic” conversations with a couple of hospitals about addressing their recruiting challenges. One of the hospitals has over 500 vacant positions; the other slightly more than 1,000. It is clear that their current models (staffing, tools, etc. provided to HR) aren’t going to ever allow them to catch up. From my perspective, this situation of perpetually being short-staffed is common to many (most?) hospital organizations. The demands on the HR recruiting function most often far exceed their capacity to deliver....

Best Year Ever

I have been dubbed a “serial entrepreneur” in the past for having been part of launching several startups. I often refer to LFT as a 12-year-old startup, as our team has spent many hours re-thinking every piece of our business since I joined almost two years ago. It’s been a lot of fun, and it’s nice to be able to say that our mission to truly change the recruiting experience for both clients and candidates is moving in the right direction. We just finished our best year ever at LFT. Placements were up 16% from 2014 (which was our previous best year). I like to think...

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly – My Evolving Perspective on Executive Search

I’m the new guy. That phrase in a work environment brings several likely downstream effects – last choice for vacation days at holiday time, waiting period for participation in 401k, attendance at the big annual trade show in Detroit versus the one in Orlando, and, you got it, providing the content for this month’s Company newsletter. I joined LFT earlier this year after working for 25 years mostly as a General Manager in Financial Services. I have witnessed the search industry from three very distinct perspectives – as a hiring manager, as a candidate, and now as a...

Last spring, I bought a couple of beds for my house.  The salesperson told me if the Red Sox won the World Series, the beds would be free.  I’m a big baseball fan, so I was an easy target.  Now that the Red Sox have finished in last place (again), I am wondering whether I’ll get a call telling me I owe more. This little story actually has little to do with the topic of this blog.  I mostly wanted to see if everyone was paying attention.  The primary subject here is to discuss the state of the hospital hiring market.  It’s a question that is being asked with increasing frequency, so we...

Who We Are

Posted by on Aug 31, 2015 in The LFT Blog | Comments Off on Who We Are

Thanks to so many of you for the kind emails and telephone calls following my promotion last month.  It feels great to have so much support from the people I work with.  It really means a lot to me. It is important to remember that I’m not doing this alone.  We have a fantastic  team here at LFT that continues to grow, and we try to practice what we preach – meaning we hire both people who are experienced in the industry, but also those who are new to search (like I was).  The most important criteria is talent.  On that note, please join me in welcoming three new LFT staffers who have joined...
