Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth is seeking an experienced Senior Director of Surgical and Procedural Services to provide strategic leadership and oversight for the continuum of Perioperative Services, Anesthesia Services, Endoscopy Services, Pain Management Center, Vein Center, and Sterile Processing Services. S/he will to accomplish sustained profitable growth in all areas of responsibility. The Senior Director will articulate the organization’s strategic direction and business goals by promoting the development and implementation of best practices while cultivating a highly efficient patient flow process.

Key Initiatives and Objectives:

  • Develop and implement initiatives to expand and maximize the effectiveness of the Services, including the execution of targeted performance improvement initiatives for all areas.
  • Collaborate with the nursing and medical staff leadership structure on issues related to service delivery, technology and equipment, capital planning, revenue generation and enhancement, and all other related administrative matters.
  • Coordinate resources to meet patient care demands, and ensures programs and services are in compliance with hospital and corporate policies, as well as federal, state and local agency regulations.
  • Evaluate the orientation and performance of new employees and provides timely feedback.
  • Support medical instructors through providing student learning opportunities.
  • Ensure timely data collection, analysis of information, and operational response– including but not limited to: payroll, FTE budget, operational budgets, patient/family satisfaction and evidence based clinically effective quality outcome measures.
  • Responsible for annual planning relative to service line and integration with the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Recognize industry trends and issues, and responds accordingly.
  • Knowledgeable about day-to-day operations; appropriately delegates and prioritizes tasks in order to manage multiple projects.
  • Coordinate time schedules to ensure proper coverage for all shifts, including on-call coverage.
  • Facilitate intra- and inter- departmental collaboration with staff, physicians, volunteers and vendors to promote the overall success of the departments and the Organization.
  • Actively participate in hospital-wide quality improvement process activities.
  • Serve on and lead hospital-wide committees, fosters collaboration, and serves as a role-model for effective and accountable leadership.                                                                      

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • B.S. in Nursing required. M.S. in Nursing or related field required.
  • Several years of managerial, administrative and leadership experience, with at least two years in a leadership position in surgical services.
  • Solid background in planning, organizing, and supervising
  • Identifies problems, gathers data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions.
  • Recent experience of the latest surgical equipment, technology, and procedures.
  • Experience with fiscal management including operational and capital budgets.
  • Demonstrates skill in identifying, utilizing and scheduling staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to handle crisis situations in an effective, prompt, precise and professional manner.

Registration/Certification:

  • Current R.N. license in Massachusetts.
  • BLS Certification
  • ACLS Certification
  • Specialty Certification (A.O.R.N.) and CCST preferred
