Canton-Potsdam Hospital is seeking an experienced, collaborative Director of Obstetrics to provide leadership and promote evidence-based, clinical best practices within The Birthplace (the Labor and Delivery Unit at CPH). Under the general guidance of the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Obstetrics has strategic, fiscal, operational and educational responsibility and accountability for the standards of care and service within The Birthplace. The Birthplace discharges 500+ OB cases and newborns each year (1,400+ patient days; 1,200+ newborn patient days.)

The Director of Obstetrics provides guidance to achieve defined goals, objectives and outcomes in service, quality, finance, engagement and growth. She/he works collaboratively with the Department of Obstetrics and the Department of Pediatrics to continually evaluate and improve care of patients, as well as with other disciplines and groups to provide the highest quality of care. Responsibilities encompass all aspects of clinical operations, clinician and patient/family education, customer service, patient safety, financial outcomes, quality outcome management and regulatory compliance.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Bachelor’s degree required, BSN preferred. Master’s degree in Nursing or comparable area of study preferred. Candidate should have at least one degree in Nursing.
  • Three to five years of progressive leadership experience in an Obstetric/Mother-Baby setting; strong skillset as required for management of Labor & Delivery, Birthing Center/LDRP operations.
  • Active State of New York RN license or temporary practice permit required.
  • BLS, NRP and Fetal Monitoring required; ACLS strongly preferred.
  • Certification in nursing leadership and/or clinical specialty preferred.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in a Labor & Delivery setting in which effective decision-making, delegation of responsibility, and operational excellence under dynamic and changing conditions are paramount.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and problem-solving skills.
