HopeHealth, headquartered in Providence, RI is the largest not-for-profit hospice and palliative care provider in New England and a market leader in the provision of hospice, palliative, home care, and other services in support of patients, families and caregivers facing serious illness and end of life.  The organization, which has $80m in annual revenues, eight locations, and more than 700 employees, is comprised of three main organizations:  Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island, HopeHealth Massachusetts, and Visiting Nurse of HopeHealth.  The organization also has programs in Alzheimer’s & Dementia in support of caregivers; HopeAcademy, a community education program; and extensive palliative care services including an outpatient patient care center.

Position Summary:

The Vice President of Finance is a highly visible position reporting to the CAO/CFO responsible for leading the revenue cycle, finance (accounting/ general finance, accounts payable, financial reporting), and payroll functions for HopeHealth and its affiliates while demonstrating a sincere commitment to the organization’s mission.  S/he will ensure departmental operations are efficient and effective with a high degree of customer service. The position will also oversee financial record-keeping and reporting processes, acting as key financial and technical expert on financial matters across the system.  S/he oversees all audit and cash management activities, ensuring strong internal controls are in place to safeguard organizational assets.  This person will serve as an active member of the organization’s Retirement Plan Fiduciary Committee, as well as other committees as appropriate.  S/he will develop strong and effective working relationships with senior leaders and peers, ensuring a high degree of coordination between functions.  The VP of Finance serves on the organization’s Senior Leadership Team and is the primary backup for the CAO/CFO, acting as a role model for others in the organization.  S/he will demonstrate a sincere commitment to the organization’s mission, building internal and external partnerships to maximize organizational success.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related discipline with Master’s Degree or equivalent progressively-responsible experience building financial services that support operations and organizational success.
  • Minimum five years of experience with several years of senior financial management and fiscal operations experience in a complex setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of finance including accounting, audit management and preparation, payroll, accounts payable, revenue cycle, and insurance in a complex business environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial reporting and analysis
  • Extensive supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to recruit and retain staff, develop effective working relationships, coach and develop staff, and proactively and appropriately address employee performance issues.
